Silent Mobius the motion picture 1 and 2 (slight spoilers)
Okay I've always been kinda sorta interested in this siries. I simply adore the aesthetic. I tried to get into this anime, however I found that the rip of it on youtube looks really crappy, and the quality of the show beyond that is really... idk it's not as good as I was expecting. I will revisit it someday. But once I saw it had an older, higher budget OVA film, I had to check it out.
I think this anime suffers from the typical OVA shortcomings, very cool and cohesive and honestly breaktaking art direction, wonderful animation, but a story that is a little hard to follow. Either way, I enjoyed it. It's one of those anime that are just good enough you wish it was in a different medium, like a video game. TBH I'm left with similar feelings that I was left with Tower of druaga, as in this NEEDS to be an rpg game. I'd put this franchise to work, that's for sure. I understand why it's not that popular though, it just doesn't have enough popping about it. I think I just need to read the mangas to get a more cohesive vision of what the series is supposed to be.
Thoughts:
- why is her name kiddi
- Rally Cheyenne boss lady she looks like Noi... holy shmoly...
- Katsumi's fit is so fucking heat, I'd rock that fit in a heartbeat. I love all the outfits SO much in this movie. Whoever was in charge of the fashion of this world had a real vision about what they wanted the world to look like. I suppose it's a very early 90s look, but everyone certainly was reading the same look book.
- This work almost feels like a propaganda peice.. hear me out. Imagine if like in Dune, Katsumi's mother was benne jessuit or something, and their parents were a part of some magic breeding program. I think they hinted at that somewhat, that her birth and curse as a magic beast was quite intentional. Now I have seen some of the anime, so I know this is probably not fully accurate, but if you take up the theory that Katsumi is correct in assuming the lucifer hawks are government manufactured and controlled in an effort to force Katsumi to become some type of superweapon for the government, they actually succeeded. With the amount of plot and lore the film gives you, i think you could proabably hold this take as a theory. Would that make this a horror film? Idk, but that would be pretty scary if they made a movie like that. Manipulating and torturing some innocent lady to become a magic death machine. Like they even changed her citizenship and confined her to the city where the monsters keep killing her how crazy is that?? It's not hard to see things from her perspective, and how unreasonable the whole scenario is
- The english dub is unironically nice, Katsumi's screams are horrowing.
- I really do love every single outfit in this damn film
- The lucifer hawks are not that compelling of a demon tbh, though the revenge arc was kinda ok i guess
- Yuki Saiko kinda came out of nowhere, and is suddenly all over Katumi? Like I'd be a little creeped out if someone was all over me like that. That's what I'm saying this whole thing can be read like some sort of psyop against Katsumi.
- I don't think I understand what the lucifer hawks are yet. slimeball devil monsters from another dimension? like what
- movie 2 is SLIGHTLY beter than movie
But yeah like this anime immediately reminds me of Astral Chain with it's setting and world scenario. They're cheesy but very fun films. Check it out, be the only other human being that's heard of this with me.

Oh... I'm being informed of the fact that there ARE games for this series, and one of them IS an rpg, and the battle system looks ASS.... eh it doesn't match my vision but it could be good. I'd want to see this as a real hardcore strategy RPG.
