Alright now that we've properly had an opening to this review, there's one thing I leaned about myself and how I like to consume media that I should mention that I've neglected for a while, and it's the integrity of presentation when it comes to anime. I suppose my fantasy, horror, and sci fi novels, I'm always expecting wayy more in terms of plot. I've grown accustomed to the slow burn of really, truly, deeply understanding a story, its characters, and their motivations. I know animation is like five thousand times harder than writing a novel, but boy o boy whatever Record of Lodoss War doesn't have in terms of plot (it's a retelling of a DND game btw, which is awsome already), it makes up for in terms of presentation. EVERY frame of animation on display is a beautifuly composed work of art. Every single one!!! Ohh man these deep dark murky hues, the fluid animation, the wonderful character designs, the magestic underlighting, it it just flaunts its own competence loud enough to leave the viewer in shock! well it left me in shock anyhow.
The vibe is so thick you can taste it, you can hear it, you can smell it, it drags you by the ankle into its viscous depths, and submerges you into the strange world of Lodoss. How rare is it to see the passion, talent, and skill of a team self-actualize before your eyes?
For real though, the boomers were right. This anime is very legit and everyone should check it out. Everyone should watch it. This kinda makes me want to get into tabletop rpgs. Just kinda tho, I need to find a rlly simple one I can solo journal bc im shy... hell maybe I can publish it on here hehehe. record of yudosai war...
