Mobile Suit Gundam F91

not gonna hold you this movie was kinda weird.

It sort of felt overanimated in a Akira sort of way in some scenes, especially the beginning. I'm not complaining though. The story was a little weird too. It sort of felt like it could have worked a bit better as a um, OVA series or something. The main villain was kind of stupid too. The story also felt... weird! The story felt too long for the movie medium, but too thin for anything else. So many characters that came and went in this story, I'm just not feeling it i guess. I found it pretty cute thay the little baby they rescued turned out to be a newtype. However, it was still fine at some points. I really like the backstory with the mother and how she kind of abandoned her kids. I was kind of interesting the way they handled that. The sequence during the invasion was incredible. It was really really well done. I gotta re iterate, the villian being a fuckin cyber newtype robot was stupid as hell. He had ZERO motivations and was literally just haha im EVIL and SPITEFUL!!! Like got over yourself before I hit yo ass with an EMP gun.

interesting point:

Tldr:

Fun movie, a little dull at times. Sometimes I didnt know OR care about what was going on and that rubbed me the wrong way. Especially for a gundam movie. If you turn your brain off you'll enjoy it. Not as offensive as Stardust Memories.

Addendum: I now realize that this was supposed to be another 50 episode series, but it got crunched down into a motion picture. I see all the story beats of a gundam show, but I feel like it didn't really offer anything supremely different than the other UC gundam series I've seen (0079, War in the Pocket, Stardust, Zeta, Double Zeta, and Char's Counterattack) to make it stand out as another entry into the cannon. But then again, most of the plot we would have gotten was crushed from 21 hours of animation into 2 hours of animation, so what the heck do I know. If the full story for F91 was released as a manga or novel, I'd totally pick it up. But it's still entertaining as is...

Addendum to the Addendum: I am being informed that F91 has a manga AND a novelization... Well. Alright then! Cool! I'll check it out some day (into the pile it goes).
