Tomino's Brain Powered is one long group therapy session. Initially this anime felt totally nonsensical, but after the shock of the weirdness wore off it was just ok for me. The ending though, hollywood as it were, was good and I am satisfied with it.
Overall i really enjoyed seeing everybodys relationships improve. Crazy that we needed mommy issues + space aliens to make the newtype promise a reality. This is like an anti kill em all show. I see what ppl mean when they say that this is an anti evengelion too.
I really enjoyed watching this in retrospect, i think some of the minutae of the episodes just bored me just a little. I think the lack of character deaths + overall ambiguity of what was going on kinda put a damper on the tension, and made the stakes feel low.
Plus people arguing about literal personal problems on the existential battlefield for the fate of humanity was silly lol. Not unexpected with Tomino, but like yall will run up on each other, trauma dump, and run off.. like whats the deal with that like.. yall aint serious about NOTHING
The twist with Baron Maximilian i could see a thousand miles away. The twist with Geybridge, i did not and i rank that reveal 7 shocks out of 10. More confused than suprised i think.
Best quote gotta go to Johnathan: "I'LL GET EVEN WITH WOMEN AND MY MOTHER" shit had me dying. Also his constant chicken posing was very humorus as well.
By the end of the first episide they said the word "brain" way too many times.
Also i did not really f with the "living robots" concept. Not that it was done badly or anything like that, i just didnt like it much. I do still intend to watch ideon, however.
